Last week, a man shuffled into our space with his walker, drawn by all that was going on. His story is below and it is powerful…. but none of it would have happened had not this intrepid bunch of followers of Jesus simply shown up.

Chinese Baptist Church Greater Hartford helped load, pack lunches for next week, and led downtown.
River of Life Church joined us and brought the prayer.
We had five folks from the Barn join us and immediately became family

Service

It was a powerful day.

The team from the Chinese Baptist Church joined us packing and then came downtown. Nick and Jen Yang, who have been with us for six years now???… are raising up many families keen on discipling their children to be life-long follwers of Jesus. I had a great talk with a new young family with two awesome little girls who wanted to help them live understanding the privilege they have. God had this model for me from day one of Street Church,

The load was fast and easy and the Yangs picked up the tea and ice at ChickfilA.

Lots of regulars with us waiting. Charlie was there looking amazing. He was excited to show me his one month coin from AA! He shared he was arrested a few weeks back for drunken disorderly and he had court mandated AA. God works in many ways! Pray he keeps it up. He is proof that in our space people find peace.

Big Sam led the service. It was not so easy for the first half as there was a MASSIVE wedding party talking photos and stuck around talking paying no attention to us. Funny, I spoke with the pastor and he was excited to see what we were doing but didn’t really give us any space...they were just taking photos. I started off the sermon with the passage from Mattew... as in the days of Noah there will be those being given in marriage when the son of man comes.....

Comicon was also in town so we had the oddest folks walking past... you never know at Street Church!

A first time young boy from the Barn read, along with Bernard, Ed, and Patricia. I preached on the parable of the wheat and the weeds, focusing on the questions we spoke about at Thursday dinner...

What did the passage say about God?... he was the sower, in control, sees all, and will ultimately reap.

What did it say about us? We are seen, safe, and protected. We are marked for the Harvest and will be with Jesus. We are to wait and trust, but not ignore the injustice we are surrounded by because we are known by our fruit.

A young man joined us with the team from the Barn and sang worship for us during communion. It was beautiful. Jade handed out communion and the line was looooong. The Jacobs brought Mac n cheese and we had plenty of folks to help serve. The young man and his mom handed out the hygiene kits I had packed, and Liz and Marlaree along with the Jaobs handed out coffee and the snack table. Ed-the-Awesome was on tent duty and walked the line waiting for lunch handing out Gatorade. He is such a beloved member of our community!

The prayer was popping up everywhere too.

While we were milling about, a man in a walker had asked one of the volunteers about the church and to “join”. She called me one and he asked me the question and I simply told them he all ready did by showing up.

She had talked to him about faith and Jesus and if he had accepted Christ and he had not. So I shared and he accepted Jesus and with two others holding his arms he leaded over the fountain and was baptized. Geoff and others surrounded him in prayer. I had asked him if he had anything he ended to repent of and he said yes, he was using crack and fentanyl. I gave Geoff the access number and he helped him do an intake under one of the canopies while it poured. It was beautiful and part of Geoffs story. He and big Sam drove him off to Blue Hills and by God’s grace he had gotten in. The man was in tears. The night before he had overdosed.

While Geoff was under the tent with him and Sam and James, one of our regulars who is with us often, shared that he has not been around because he had diagnosed with stage one lung cancer. We stood in the rain and talked and prayed. Continue the prayers.

I got back to storage and only had to dry the one tent because we had loaded everything before the rain (thank you Jesus) and I dropped off the van and told Will I only had fruit left but it was on the seat.....

Good, Brendan needs more than fruit, he needs Jesus. What am I saying, I need Jesus too!

Will, do you have him?

No, things always seem to get in the way.

How about right now. Tomorrow is not promised. We can pray.

Is that it? (with huge disbelief and a smile)

yes......

so we prayed, and a man I have know for years came to faith.

This week I would like to share a screenshot from a video I was sent from friends running a Christian Summer Camp in Ukraine. If you have ever been around Street Church you will recognize those fuzzy little animal keychains we give out to kids… and all the adults who just can’t resist them.

They are being handed out to kids in a country at war to bring the love of God and a splash of joy because of your continued support in allowing me to purchase these items and to personally bring them.

Pray that the youth in Ukraine will feel God’s love and protection as they receive these gifts.
