Miscellaneous
it was hot. No, really, it was.
Service
Really peaceful day downtown. The library was closed, so those who were there meant to be there. Folks were surprised to see us on a holiday weekend and actually said so.
Ruth and her dad met me at storage which was a huge help, along with Jonathan Owen who brought a lovely food donation.
We loaded all four coolers with gatorade and water as well as the giant white cooler filled with five 16 pound bags of ice… and brought two more cases of water and four cases of 20 oz gatorades. Everybody gurgled they were. so well hydrated!
I made 130 or so hot dogs on the stove in a huge stock pot and we served up 100 or so folks. The Jacobs had made mac and cheese and I bought thirty pounds of potato salad at Restaurant Depot. We had the lunch bags and fruit as well so it was an honest to goodness barbecue FEAST! I was surprised how well the line moved but we had many hands. Karen Cupit, Malaree, Al, Franklin and Ruth read. Owen, our friend with his “cardboard Buddy” he always dresses like himself asked if "we can help serve communion so they did with Malaree's help. I never tire of watching the mixed multitude of that line coming to the table.
I preached on living as aliens and foreigners and how we are called to love our enemies as much as family. Marcus and Thomas called me over to pray and it led to a conversation on living for Jesus and praying to accept Christ which he did and then we baptized him! It was stunning, absolutely stunning.
Ed did his usual wonderful job helping lead set-up and everything was super smooth.
No massive parade of bikes, no sirens, no problems. just a sea of people who had a picnic together because we are family. Honest, true, beloved family.

The Street Church Collective Community
Since the last email, we served at Brookdale-Chatfield, Arden Court, and River Ridge Memory Care facilities. You are welcome to join us any week to come and simply worship with us and these beautiful Saints of God.
Today was special for me as my friend, Carla, whom I’m known now for over eight years, was sitting on the end of the table we were using for communion. She was coloring quietly and would look up and smile at me. She had three really great friends for several years and lost two of them during COVID. Those four were thicker than mud.
Today, the words were stuck inside, so as Mary and Eileen read, I sat and held Carla’s hand and she began to respond “thanks be to God” after the readings. My friends get stuck sometimes, but I just treat them as unstuck… even if I sing children songs to them… that just might be where they are, you know?
and Jesus loves them no matter what. I like that a lot. Being with them brings me hope and joy and assurance of the promises of Jesus…
lo, I am with you always…..
