It was so nice to be back at Street Church after a month away! I had a great time with the Lord before coming this morning, where He helped craft the message for today. Even though Bryan was off today, he showed up at 10a at UHaul and I'm thankful he did, because he had an army of 10 people looking to be put to work! I was still in the office getting the truck, so he deputized everyone and by the time I got to the unit, everyone was in full swing. It's always nice when the Chinese American Baptist Church helps out each month.

Jen and a few others went to Chick Fil A to pick up the ice and tea, so I went straight downtown. It was a FULL day down there. As we were setting up, Randall was being really loud, and I was cognizant some kids were there. We got set up decently quickly and I put the music on to try to distract everyone. It seemed to work and Randall mostly stayed out of the way the rest of the day. This is a real place. It is always safe, but not always quiet.

Rebekah Dostie was there and she was a HUGE help, as was a gentleman named Ricardo. He has been with us for a month I an told. He approached me asking to MC because it looked like I had a lot going on (I'm sure I did), and I hesitated for a moment but agreed - which is not something I would've done in the past but the Lord has done a work on my heart of releasing control- and just made sure he knew the basics of the readings we were going over and how to call people up. He did a nice job, and I'm glad I got to sit and listen to the readings before my message.

I gave a word on Unity - Psalm 133. It was not a reading I had planned on using this week and while picking out the readings and mentioned that to Bryan. He then replied "I would never give up an opportunity to preach on Psalm 133!" I didn't really understand the Psalm but it caused me to spend some time looking to over, if it was really that impactful, and sure enough, there was so much to mine in those 3 verses.

God took me to Exodus, Leviticus, 1 Kings, Psalms, Isaiah, and John. It was so cool learning about how God weaved everything together through Jesus throughout the Word just in those 3 verses. I'm glad I had the chance to preach on it, especially on the "dew" found in verse 3. It is God's provision - bread (manna), later manifested in the Bread of Life - that brings us in unity with Him. Wow!

We had a buzzing time of lunch and giveaways. There was another gentleman who was being loud and almost agressive (out of mental illness it seemed). I almost had to intervene but he eventually left without any more issue. I also shared with the congregation the news of my engagement, and thanked them for being such great friends to Kelsey - and me - and how excited I was for this next season God has for us as a couple, and us the church. A lot of people came and congratulated me after which was very sweet.

As we were leaving, Ed mentioned that someone took his lunch bag. He was walking back to the bus dejected, so I drove down Main Street in the U-Haul and felt the Spirit inviting him to hop in, He was very excited and I said I'd take him to lunch if he helped me unload. He came back to U-Haul and got to see the back-of-house for the first time which was fun. It was great to spend time with him and great to have him help me unload. We went to lunch at a new sandwich shop in West Hartford, and he shared it's his birthday Monday, so it was nice to spend a birthday lunch with him.

Such a great day in the Lord. Excited to do it again next week!

Blessings,

Kenny

Community Church Updates and

Kingdom Encouragement

We had two church gatherings last week. One at River Ridge Community Church and the other at the end of my street at West Hartford Health and Rehab Community Church. Both Mary and Eileen were with me this week and as always they bring so much more that simply helping set up, praying, and serving communion. They bring the Spirit of God in them and with that comes an abiding peace. River Ridge was a time of praise with singing like we have never heard there before. The three of us went out for lunch after the service for a time of fellowship for this special team. We always share a meal together as an act of lunch. While we were there we sat next to a friend of mine whom I have known for thirty plus years. He is the man who would not stop asking me to join him in prison… for Kairos Ministry that is.

Our service at West Hartford Health and Rehab was just as sweet as we were again joined by a daughter visiting her mom.  They share so much love it is palable.

Jesus told us to not neglect meeting together and I try to share as much as my life with all of you who minister with us, that includes my mom! She helps me make sandwiches at least once per month to fill in when slots are not taken. She is still at it at 86 years old. We talk of Jesus while we make food for the homeless, things that never happened between us when I was growing up in that house. Praise God that it is about finishing well!

The other day I was looking out my window and noticed a woman holding up a plastic plastic house that was resting on the bumper of a car driving very slowly up my street. I ran outside and asked if they would like some help with my pickup truck and they said “yes, please!” To be brief, I learned that they were German and explained that we had multiple neighbors who were working for “MTU”, an aerospace company nearby and “of course” that was why they were here! I slipped in that I have a truck because I am a pastor of a church that requires me to have a truck and turned out that one of the ladies was a visiting friend from Berlin who is in a Lutheran Seminary to become a pastor! This led to a discussion of the German Church from what I had learned from my friend and she was blown away about our little Street Church…..

We are now being gossiped about in a seminary in Germany! She gave me German Chocolate to say thank you!

Always be ready and attentive to the whispers of God my friends, and act!
